More than half of the project period has passed, but progress is still slow on the Anuradhapura Strategic City Development Programme.
The Chief Secretariat of the North Central Province has informed us that it is not satisfied with the progress of the project while providing information related to the application for information we sent inquiring about the progress of the strategic city development program targeting the city of Anuradhapura under the loan assistance of the French Development Institute. We disclosed the facts in an earlier letter about that.
In particular, the Chief Secretariat, which has provided answers to the problem we have presented regarding whether there has been a delay in the implementation of this related project, has clearly stated that there has been some delay.
It had also been mentioned that they had informed the relevant ministry on two occasions.
Thus, in the letter addressed to the Ministry of Municipalities and Western Development on 18.12.2019, it is mentioned that even though more than half of the project period has already passed, the implementation of the project has been slow. Therefore, it has been mentioned that due to the fact that no action related to it has been implemented at the ground level, the stakeholders who have come forward to support it are continuously questioning the activities of the project.
It is also mentioned in the letter that in the Anuradhapura District Coordination Committee meeting held on 06.12.2019, the lack of progress in this project was questioned. In addition to that, it has been mentioned that the stakeholders often question the progress of the project during the regional coordination committee meetings held to discuss the project's activities.
This is the largest amount allocated for the development of Anuradhapura city so far in the history and if it is not properly spent and the project is not implemented, it will be a big problem. has been sent
Then on 03.06.2020, the letter addressed to the Ministry of Urban Development, Water Supply and Housing Facilities again by the Chief Secretary of the North Central Province also states that it was discussed in several progress review meetings that the identified projects were not yet operational. .
Therefore, the Chief Secretariat has made arrangements to inform the relevant authorities that immediate action should be taken in this regard.
Also, we have not received any complaint related to this development project till 15.09.2020 when we forwarded the information request and it has also been mentioned that if any such complaint is received, necessary action will be taken at the provincial council level.
